Think about what’s fun for you.

Here’s a cool trick that helps me when I’m feeling stressed.

SHIFT: Start by acknowledging what you like doing and how you like to feel. Create a list of words that describes how you want to feel. Yes, I’m for real. Write them out. After you create your list of words that reflect how you want to feel like joyful, motivated, fearless, connected, supported, peaceful, strong, compassionate, or inspired. Then think about what you can do to actually feel that way. Write it out. Whenever you feel out of alignment, unmotivated, or stressed out, simply return to these lists. It could include meditating, yoga, journaling, connecting with others, breathing, spending time on the lake, watching motivational videos, traveling, reading or listening to podcasts. 

I’m a firm believer that if it doesn’t feel good for you, then you shouldn’t do it. If your workload is piling up and you need to refocus, consider stepping away. I have a playlist of music that gets my vibe up. If I’m not feeling it on any given day, I just stop whatever I’m doing and I crank up the music and get moving.

Find what works for you. Once you get out of your funk and you become aware of what you like doing, do just that and commit to becoming great at it. When you align yourself with the activities that you enjoy, it doesn’t feel so much like hard work anymore.
